Hi there. My name is Cathal Berry and I’m standing as an Independent candidate at the next general election in the Kildare South constituency.

I’m not a career politician, I’m a father, a doctor and a former member of the Irish Defence Forces.

Now that Kildare South has been upgraded to a four seat constituency, it is an ideal opportunity for us to finally elect an Independent T.D, like so many constituencies around the country.

Basically Kildare South is losing out by not having an Independent voice in the Dail. While there is a place for party politics, there’s also most certainly a place for Independent politics too.

I won’t be taking my orders from Dublin, I’ll be taking them from Athy, from Kilcullen and from Monasterevin.

Voiceover scene in hospital setting

My priorities are Health, Housing, the Environment, Education and Defence Force Families. As a doctor, I have first-hand experience of the trolley crisis in our hospitals and the difficulties being experienced by primary care services in the community. This gives me real understanding of the daily challenges faced by families in the area.

From a housing perspective there are huge stresses in the constituency for home-owners, renters, students and those unable to afford a place of their own. With the right policies these problems are eminently solvable.

Scene 7 — Forrest Area

For me, protecting the environment is absolutely crucial. I’m actively invloved in common sense conservation at a community level and particularly interested in the provision of funding for home insulation, electric vehicles and public transport.

During my military service I’ve worked all over the world and represented Ireland at EU level meetings in Brussels and Paris. Since retiring from the military six months ago I’ve been a vocal advocate for better employment conditions for military families and better supports for military patients.
